Description: Leather_bound. This handsome leatherbound set, halfbound in forest green Morocco with marbled paper over boards and housed in a custom slipcase, collects the first editions of the first five books in the Acorn Series published by the Boone and Crockett Club, North America's oldest wildlife and conservation organization, founded in 1887 by future President Theodore Roosevelt and the editor of the influential magazine Forest and Stream, George Bird Grinnell. Named in honor of frontiersmen Daniel Boone and Davy Crockett, the club has worked for over a century to promote American conservation, particularly supporting the creation of the National Park and National Forest Services, the National Wildlife Refuge system, the elimination of commercial market hunting, and more. The Club's goals were furthered through their publications, edited by Grinnell and Roosevelt, the first five books of which are presented here.

8 1/2" X 6" each; 8 7/8" X 8 7/8" X 6 1/4" set. 345pp; 447pp; 353pp; 497pp; 511pp. Handsomely rebound in more recent half forest green Morocco with marbled paper over boards, lettered and ruled in gilt to spines, with maroon head- and tailbands, housed together in a custom green cloth slipcase with burgundy silk ribbon. Bindings are firm, tight, and sound. Dampstain to top edge of text block, protruding to topmost margin of pages of Hunting at High Altitudes, with occasional faint rippling. Previous owner's stamp to flyleaf of Hunting in Many Lands. Pages are otherwise uniformly age-toned, with very occasional smudge and scattered foxing to preliminaries, else clean and unmarked. Some dust soiling and shelfwear to slipcase. Three of the five volumes have tissue-guards over their frontispieces. One plate in American Big Game and Its Haunts obviously reinserted. Each volume is thoroughly illustrated throughout, primarily in monochrome photographic plates. Very good.
