This is a lot of correspondence of the prominent Massachusetts merchant, Peter Chardon Brooks (1767-1849). All are letters addressed to Chardon, dated between 1840-1844. In addition, many of the letters also include copies or drafts of Brooks' replies to the correspondent, or brief notes by Brooks about the content. Brooks had very distinctive handwriting and was evidently a meticulous record-keeper. Most of the correspondence relates to real estate matters, possibly concerning a property in Brunswick, Maine. Brooks himself was writing from Boston at this time.
Correspondents represented here were all located in Brunswick, Maine. They include the lawyer and politician Ebenezer Everett.
