Deciding where to place your Bird Feeder is an important choice - you want to make sure it’s not only somewhere you can easily see it and access it for cleaning and refilling, but you also want to make sure it’s in a great place for the safety and accessibility of our avian friends. Make sure it’s in a moderately open area, ideally about 10 feet away from trees or shrubs. This makes it safer from predators like outdoor cats, and harder for pest species like squirrels to get to, while giving our feathered pals some cover close by incase, they’re feeling insecure, or need to rest after having a meal. Another thing to consider is the distance from windows - collisions into reflective glass are a big problem for little birds. If placing your feeder near a window, place it within 3 feet. This allows for easy viewing, as well as decreases the chance of injury to a bird from a window strike, since they won’t be able to get up to full speed.
