Condition Description: This booklet titled “Safety With Trains” published in the mid 1960’s by the Association of American Railroads is in very good condition. The booklet’s colors are still vibrant since this item was never displayed in direct sunlight. When this booklet was not being exhibited it was placed in a vanilla envelope and stored in a sealed plastic container.
My Father worked for the Pennsylvania Rail Road, Penn Central Transportation Company and Consolidated Rail Corporation, first as an Electrician in the Altoona, PA Locomotive Car Shops, then as an Industrial Engineer in the Engineering Office, Juniata, PA and the Locomotive and Rail Car Repair Estimating Office at the Samuel Rea Car Shops in Hollidaysburg, PA. He collected all types of railroad memorabilia during his entire 45 year railroad career.
When my Father died in 1999, I received all of his railroad career memorabilia and brought all of these items back to our smoke free family home in Manassas, VA where they were retained for over 20 years.
During the relocation of my wife and I from Manassas, VA to Fort Myers, FL we significantly downsized, and our new condominium does not have the space to display or indefinitely store all of my Father’s railroad memorabilia. As a result, I have been selling these items on various railroad enthusiast websites and on eBay. The next item for sale on eBay is this booklet from the Association of American Railroads “Safety With Trains”.
The booklet’s front cover is shown in the first attached high-resolution photograph. Along the top of the page contains the booklet’s title in orange text: “Safety With Trains”. Below the boxed title is a graphic with a locomotive and several kids waiting at a railroad crossing. The colors of the cover’s background, text and graphics are still vibrant since this item was never displayed in direct sunlight. When this booklet was not being exhibited it was placed in a vanilla envelope and stored in a sealed plastic container. The size of the booklet is approximately 5 ½ inches wide by 8 ¼ inches high.
Inside the booklet on the left hand side contains the title in orange text: “Safety With Trains”. Below the title is a railroad crossing signal with red warning lights as shown in the second attached high-resolution photograph. The right side of the page contains short railroad safety stories.
The right hand side of the booklet continues with short railroad safety stories along with a “few things to remember” including train tracks are for trains and playing around them is dangerous. It also notes to obey crossing gates even if you don’t see a train or think you can get through the gate before the train arrives as shown in the third attached high-resolution photograph.
The booklet’s rear cover is shown in the fourth attached high-resolution photograph and continues with things to remember when crossing railroad tracks and other railroad safety lessons. As noted in the booklet: “The most important tip - and probably the easiest to remember- can be expressed in just a few words: Stay clear of railroad tracks”. Exhibited along the bottom is the booklet’s publisher: “ASSOCIATION OF AMERICAN RAILROADS, INFORMATION AND PUBLIC AFFAIRS DEPARTMENT, 50 F STREET, NW, WASHINGTON, DC 20001”.
The rear of the booklet shown vertically is a “Safety With Trains” fold out poster containing “9 Easy Steps To Follow” as shown in the fifth attached high-resolution photograph. The size of the foldout is approximately 11 inches wide by 16 ½ inches high.
This booklet titled “Safety With Trains” published in the mid 1960’s by the Association of American Railroads is in very good condition as noted in the text and exhibited in the attached photographs. This item would be a great addition for any Railroad Enthusiast.
