This is for an original full ticket for the 1970 Atlanta International Pop Festival which was held on July 3,4 and 5 in a soybean field next to the Middle Georgia Raceway in Byron Georgia. The festival would actually last until the morning of July 6 with Richie Havens awakening the crowd with a version of “Here Comes the Sun”. Georgia’s Governor Lester Maddox had tried to stop the concert from happening but his objections started too late to have any effect on the show. Georgia would pass laws to prevent concerts like this and an Atlanta Pop 3 would never come to pass. Like the 1969 Woodstock event, the Pop Festival was promoted as 3 days of Peace Love and Music. The crowd size is still debated to this day but the estimates have put it between 150,000 and 600,000. A 14.00 weekend ticket would have given you the opportunity to see over 30 acts, including Jimi Hendrix, The Allman Brothers, Grand Funk Railroad, BB King, Lee Michaels, Johnny Winter, Bob Segar, Ten Years After, Procol Harum, Mountain, Mott the Hoople, Spirit and more. Jimi Hendrix would play on the 4th of July and would play the Star Spangled Banner while the fireworks exploded behind him at midnight. A documentary film about the performance was released in 2012 and featured footage and interviews of most of the acts at the concert. The footage of Hendrix’s performance was found untouched over 30 years after it was filmed and was released as “Jimi Hendrix Electric Church” and features great visual and audio quality along with Hendrix playing the Star Spangled Banner against a backdrop of fireworks going off in the Georgia night. The ticket is the real deal and has been encapsulated and graded a PSA 3 which is the second highest ever graded on the population report. The next time you fork over 250.00 to see a band of old timers play in a casino, just remember what 14.00 would have bought you in 1970. Extremely rare and a must have for any Hendrix fan. Remeber that this is a full ticket and not a stub.
