Vintage Belle France by Jane Schaffhausen beautifully made, hand-embroidered, hand-ribbon-woven, hand-knit black cotton cardigan sweater adorned with 6 decorative leaf-etched brass buttons down the front. Women's size S. This work-of-art, unusual piece for this designer of iconic floral print day dresses--particularly in the 1980's--is amazing for its hand-work detail. The floral, dimensional embroidered details not only are mulit-colored, but also are flecked with golden metallic threads. Satin ribbons in purple and greenish turquoise illuminate the scalloped edges and cuffs. (Please see the 2 images included of the sweater inside out, back and front to see the beautiful crafting of the ribbon weaving and embroidery.) Missing the label for fabric content, place of manufacture and care, I suggest dry-cleaning only. There are a couple of embroidery strands that are amiss--easily tacked down or unnoticed. All told, this confection of a sweater is in excellent pre-owned, vintage condition. A versatile piece that elevates the look of everything from sheath dresses to pencil skirts to jeans. Gorgeous.
