This beautiful Victorian ewer in ' Mary Gregory' style is a stunning piece of cranberry glass. This hand-blown piece was produced in Bohemia c1860 and is typically decorated with a hand-painted white enamel pictorial scene featuring a victorian dressed girl.

There are a number of distinguishing and identifying characteristics with this piece that demonstrates it is of the period.

Firstly, it is hand blown and features a domed base with a broken pontil.

Further the handle seats where both ends are joined to the body of the ewer have gilded joins and the lip of the ewer has a fine gilding to its edge, it can still be seen and typical of the higher quality pieces of the period. The handle itself is slender and of upright form and not the common curved thicker handles seen on later pieces.

Lastly, the enamelling on this piece is high quality having been triple fired resulting in the girl being and blossom/flowers being more prominent to the foreground against the pictoral flora background. This was achieved by building up layers of hand painted white enamal and repetedly firing to achieve the desired finish to replicate the english cameo style it was trying to emulate.

It is an original antique piece and is not a Fenton or other much later reproduction.

The ewer is in excellent condition with no cracks or chips.
