Description: [London Topography] FIRST EDITION. Quarto bound in half-sheets (27 x 21cm), pp.[2] 2; 172 [10, unpaginated plates]. With 176 engravings throughout, as well as an engraved title-page. Brown half morocco, nonpareil marbled paper over boards. Gilt titles and raised bands to spine. Marbled endpapers. Toned and foxed throughout. Two small open tears to front flyleaf. Marbled boards rubbed with upper board sunned. Red paint splotch to upper board corner. Gentle rubbing/chipping to spine. General edgewear. Very good. A collaboration between topographical artist Thomas Hosmer Shepherd and architect James Elmes. Commissioned by Jones and Co. to illustrate London's newest, most modern buildings at the time.
