Milton's 'Paradise Lost' c.1885 w/50 Illustrations by Gustav Dore-

Clements family genealogy record

This lavishly illustrated edition of Milton's masterwork has seen many editions, and this one has no date, it seems most of them don't, but a bookstore at some point in it's history, penciled in 1885. Research shows this to be at least in the ballpark, 1890's at the latest.

The family record deals mostly with a 'Clements' family and includes a short narrative describing the grizzly death of an early Clements by scalping, and the death of another in a battle at "Blue Lick"(s), Kentucky.
I looked this up and found that though the Revolutionary War had ended in 1781, a company of British, American 'Loyalists', and sympathetic Native Americans in 1782  attacked a fort there near Carlisle Kentucky at a place called 'Blue Licks'.
The family record was written after the publication of this book, of course.  The first date found was 1768. The last entries reference dates in the 1920's, the last marriage recorded was in 1934.
