Realistic Size Spikes Are Available Again!!!

I got tired of scrounging up Micro Engineering "Micro Spikes" for my layout since they are no longer available! So... I started manufacturing my own!  First I developed my "Itty-Bitty" spike in the exact same dimensions (3/16" length x .011 thick x .020 width x .040 head length) as the ME "Micro" size, perfect for HO, HOn3 and N gauge! Then, taking it a step further, I developed a slightly longer and thicker (1/4" length x.013 thick x .020 width x .040 head length) "Tiny-Spike" that is perfect for HO, On3, On30 gauge. The 1/4" length holds a little better (although gluing is recommended with both sizes) and looks "just right". The 3/16 length is slightly lower profile on the rail and is best for N and HOn3. Both spikes can be used on code 55, 70, and 83 with excellent flange clearance. These are the smallest scale spikes comercially available.

I have spiked about 20,000 of these babies so far and am very pleased with the results.  With spikes this small, I highly recommend pre-drilling the ties. I use #78 drill for "Tiny" size and #79 for "Itty-bitty" but this can vary with hardness of ties. So you may need to experiment a little. I also strongly recommend gluing the bottom of the rails (I use Pliobond) for a very durable installation, as well as better managing the gauging of the rails while spiking.
