This comprehensive curriculum for marriage enrichment consists of 328 pages chock full of material to help those who teach and enrich marriages. This manual can be used as a guide for leaders who conduct in-depth marriage workshops at churches, conference centers, retreat settings, colleges and Sunday School classes.
This resource offers a three-part strategy for growth: Biblical instruction (where good, practical Biblical content is taught), small group discussion (where couples discuss and help one another apply the principles taught) and private couple sharing (where couples make decisions about how the subject material will be applied in their own relationship).

Eleven chapters address topics such as how to build better communication, how to control anger, how to improve joint decision making, how to enhance physical and spiritual intimacy, how to set goals, and how to develop relationship skills.

Besides the actual teaching material there is a chapter detailing how to plan a weekend retreat, appendices for overhead transparency masters, seminar/retreat schedules, checklist for retreat preparation, TIPS for group discussion leaders, and even menus and food buying lists if you have to arrange for your own meals at a retreat center.

From the Author

When we founded Growing Toward Oneness Family Ministries in 1983, we began developing our own curriculum. We surveyed the couples in our home church in San Diego to find out what their felt needs were. We then started searching the Scriptures and drawing from every available resource we could lay our hands on. The results were five teaching sessions we taught for four years running at our home church, and other churches in the San Diego area.

As the years passed, the couples in our home church suggested more areas of need they wanted us to teach on. That is how our curriculum evolved. We just wanted to meet couples' needs.

We taught and honed our curriculum for about ten years. During that time, we moved to a mountain community in Southern California where we managed a retreat center for several years. We taught regular couples' retreats at the center, drawing from churches in the Los Angeles and San Diego areas.

When the retreat center was shut down because of county government regulations, our hopes were dashed. But godly friends encouraged us to translate our teaching notes into written curriculum, so that churches all over the county could use it to teach marriage enrichment in a practical, biblical way.

Before we started the writing process, we thought, "All we have to do is write down what we've been teaching all these years? How hard can that be?" Well, suffice it to say, it was a whole lot harder than we thought it would be! Saying something is very different from putting it into concrete. But finally, Achieving God's Design for Marriage was finished.

We are delighted that Achieving God's Design for Marriage marriage enrichment curriculum is being used by hundreds of churches around the United States, and even in some foreign countries. God's plans are obviously much bigger than our own.
