ABOUT THE RECORD
Against the Grain, by Phoebe Snow, marked her deliberate shift from jazz influences to a rock-oriented sound, which she described as her "rockiest" album. The album, co-produced by Barry Beckett and Phil Ramone, peaked at No. 100 on the Billboard 200, underperforming and ending Snow's tenure with Columbia Records. The cover of Paul McCartney's Every Night was a notable hit, reaching No. 37 in the UK and charting in Australia, standing out as Snow's key contribution to the album. Despite its commercial struggles, tracks like Oh L.A. and Shoreline remain cherished by fans for Snow's soulful delivery.
