Landscape paintings are perhaps the most popular form of Chinese art, both in China and the U.S. The impressionism of the Lingnan style of Chinese painting is particularly effective in landscapes.
This antique watercolor and ink painting may be from the Quing Dynasty (1850-1899). The artist is unknown. It is an unsigned landscape painting that was modified (made smaller) from its original size landscape on paper so that it could be displayed framed on a wall or flat surface.
Painting Details:
Magnificent old willow trees with shades of brown and weathered tree trunks have branches with lush green leaves hanging downward towards the green landscape.
Underneath the willow trees are three cows grazing in the grass amongst blue flowers on a hillside. As you look beyond the hillside, there is a valley, and then additional hillsides are seen. The sky has shades of white and brown watercolor.
