& with the competition entry sheet present o/w Vgd./no DJ (Edgar Wallace’s
1st novel which drove him into bankruptcy, because he set up Tallis
Press to print the book himself since he couldn’t find a publisher, he had the
competition published in the Daily Mail newspaper, which had a large
circulation & finally, he set no
limit on the number of winner in each of the 3 prize categories – 1st,
2nd & 3rd, & thus, ended with more winners than
he had money to cover)
