In 1914, during the first year of the Great War, the London based manufacturer Major Drapkin issued with their Crayol Virginia and Karam Turkish cigarettes a series of 25 Soldiers in Uniform, die-cut to shape ? an unusual presentation and highly effective in enhancing the realism of the figures. In recognition of the role of our allies, the subjects include two Belgian, four French and four Russian, the remaining fifteen being British regiments among them The Black Watch, Durham Light Infantry, the Grenadier, Irish and Scots Guards, South Wales Borderers, The Royal Engineers and the Royal Field Artillery, each with a brief history on the back.
