Daphne Du Maurier (1907-1989) was an English writer, biographer and playwright. Du Maurier wrote more than 20 books and numerous short stories. She is perhaps best known for her novels "Rebecca", "Frenchman's Creek", "Jamaica Inn" and "My Cousin Rachel" all of which have been successfully adapted as movies. Two short stories. "The Birds" and "Don't Look Now", were also successfully adapted into movies. Although classed by many reviewers as a romantic novelist, her novels and stories were often described as dark and moody with overtones of the paranormal, and it is these characteristics that have earned her an enduring fan-base.   

"The Breaking Point" is a collection of 8 stories originally published in 1959. In this collection Du Maurier explores moments in the life of her characters when events stretch the emotions, and reason, to the point where something snaps. The stories are all poignant and evocative, some dealing with children, some with psychosis and others with the macabre. It is a collection in which Du Maurier's story telling skills are on full display with great characters in evocative situations and settings.

If you are a Du Maurier fan you will enjoy the intriguing stories in this book. Equally, if you have not read Du Maurier before, but like suspense, fantasy, and mysterious worlds you will also enjoy this book.   

I believe this book has been reprinted again since this edition. I this reprint is not easy to find and could be regarded as scarce. A nice addition to any Du Maurier collection, or collection of modern fiction.
