This is for an original ticket stub from the May 12 1970 game played between the Chicago Cubs and Atlanta Braves at Wrigley Field in Chicago Illinois. The game would be an extra inning affair with the Cubs earning a 4-3 victory in the 11th inning when Ron Santo, with the bases loaded, would single home Don Kessinger who had singled to lead off the inning. Mr. Cub Ernie Banks would insure his place in baseball’s Hall of Fame in the second inning when he would homer deep to left field off of Pat Jarvis for his second home run of the year and the 500th home run of his career. Ernie would become just the ninth player to enter the sacred 500 club which now boasts 28 members. This was almost a 2 for 1 ticket as Hoyt Wilhelm would pitch in relief, giving up Billy Williams 261st home run in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game. Only two days earlier Wilhelm would make history by becoming the first pitcher to appear in 1000 major league games when he would take the loss in a game against the St Louis Cardinals. Hoyt would earn a blown save in this game where he would make his 1001st appearance. This is one of the tougher tickets to find for 500 home run ticket collectors as only 5264 fans would attend the game and only 24 have been graded by PSA. A must have for any Cubs fan or 500 home run ticket collectors, the stub would probably grade either a 3 or 4 if you decided to resubmit for a number grade. Compare it to others and make your own decision.
