Antique Eleven Black Knight Hohenberg Bavaria Porcelain Soup Bowls & Under Plates; Up for sale is a lovely set of Black Knight Hohenberg Bavaria porcelains with the original round textile boxes, including 11 cream soup bowls and 11 under plates, dated early 20th century. 

Each cream soup bowl in ivory color has a wider rim and double handles. The rim has a geometric motif and is gold trimmed. The handles are also gold decorated. Inside the bowl was painted at the center a bouquet of flowers in varieties in a basket. Outside the bowl was decorated in symmetry four groups of golden floral motifs connected by golden wreaths over a burgundy background, the lower part of which was gold trimmed and decorated with geometric motif in gold. The base of the footed bowl was also decorated with gold against the ivory background. The bottom was marked on gold with a knight silhouette on horseback above “Black Knight”, below of which was marked in black ink, “Registered USA Hohenberg Bavaria”. Notably, all of the soup bowls were marked with written numbers, which may or may not correspond to each other. Many bowls if not all were also inscribed with a number “915” (not shown). 

Each under plate in a round shape and with a scalloped rim was decorated exactly with the same pattern as the soup bowl, including the mark on the bottom. Notably, each plate was marked with written numbers and inscribed with a number “916” (not shown).

Black Knight mark. The porcelains with the Black Knight mark were manufactured by Hutschenreuther porcelain factory, Germany, and imported by Graham & Zenger, a New York City importer and wholesaler between 1925 and 1941. The factory which is still in business was established by Carolus Magnus Hutschenreuther (1794-1845) in Hohenberg an der Eger, Bavaria, Germany in 1814. The factory has been focusing on quality and design for decades.

Measures: Soup bowl, 4 ½” rim diameter x 1 ¾” high x 2” base diameter; 6” (across widest parts, handle to handle); Under plate, 6” rim diameter x ¾” high x 3 ¾” base diameter; Weight, total, 6 lbs & 14.9 oz (~3.12 kg).

Condition: Very good to excellent and clean, rarely handled and like brand new.
