The 2007 Jamestown coin program honored the 400th anniversary of the founding of the colony, which was the first permanent English settlement in the New World. The program consisted of proof and mint state versions of a gold $5 coin as well as a silver dollar. Surcharges on each were used to help support quadricentennial celebrations in the city.
