This is a hand colored photogravure by photographer Roland Reed of a couple in the Ojibwa tribe. It is in good condition, with some slight discoloration around the edges of the paper and a light smudge of ink below the image itself on the border (see images for more accurate depiction of condition.) The image itself looks good. It measures 14 by 18.
Reed was highly influential in the late 1800s and early 1900s in preserving Indigenous people's legacy in the Midwest and West Coast. He also helped spread knowledge about Native American culture and dispelled rumors that Native people had all but disappeared due to displacement and loss of land by the U.S. government. These photographs provide an intimate and historical view of Native Americans from different tribes across the Midwest and Arizona, and an insight to Native culture.
