Many Slavic
peoples have a fairy tale about "Kolobok" - this is one of the first tales that
children tell.
In this folk
tale, Kolobok is a ball of dough, which is endowed with human traits.
It is the story
of a home where lives an old man and woman who have no children. The old man
asks the woman to bake bread. Baba collects all the remnants of flour that is
in the house, kneading a dough, bake a colander and put on the window to cool.
Kolobok comes to life and escapes from his grandfather and grandmother.
During his
journey, Kolobok meets one by one with various fairy-tale animals: Bunny-Rider,
Brother-wolf, Bear and Santa Claus. Everyone wants to eat him! To everyone he
sings a song that he used when he escaped from the previous creatures: "I
fled from the woman, I fled from my grandfather, I escaped from the hare ...
and I flee from you." From all, he can escape, except for Fox, who makes
himself deaf and entices Kolobka directly to his mouth to better hear and eat.
The fairy tale
about Kolobok is found in Russian and Ukrainian folklore, and also has analogs
in the tales of many other nations like the American's "gingerbread
man" and the English "Johnny the donut". The plot is also found
in Scandinavian, German, Uzbek, Tatar, and other fairy tales.
