Conifer Chamaecyparis 'Ellwoodii' is a slow-growing evergreen shrub of columnar habit, with grey-green foliage in Spring to blue-green in Winter in short, soft, feathery sprays. Oblong male cones emerge bluish black, opening brick red. Female cones are wrinkled and reddish brown, to one half-inch This conifer is a very popular species since it is highly adaptable. It makes an ideal garden feature or specimen for tubs and containers. Grows to around 1.2-1.5m in 10 years. Dwarf and slow-growing conifers are the most popular conifers suited to gardens. Taking decades to reach their ultimate height, which is still small considering their species, these conifers are perfect for borders and containers, providing a lushous backdrop to plant up against with brightly coloured plants; heathers being a traditional and popular choice.
