For your consideration is a beautiful and quite substantial antique oval carved Jet locket from the early 1900s - ready to hold your precious photos! Upon opening, you will find two silver tone inner frames which have lost its original glass and at some point cardboard was added to prop the photos up. I am unsure as to whether this was a mourning locket or just a fashion statement as the Victorians were known to carry around mementos of the living as well. In any event, it is stunning and would look amazing added to a chain and worn around the neck. The bail is made of a silver tone metal and I am unsure as to what the metal content is. The locket is one of the largest I have ever seen - measuring 2.12" long (or 3" long with the heavy duty bail) by 1.75" wide. The closure on the locket is strong and a pin or something sharp should be CAREFULLY used to open the piece. There are already some nicks to the opening indents where someone was less than gentle opening the locket. Please note that I do not clean my pieces in order to keep their vintage integrity and it may contain mild surface wear from use as the pieces are pre-loved.
