The 1948-1952 Packard Cormorant Bird by Packard took the world by storm which included many aftermarket companies of the time copying the elegant bird. This is a two piece hood ornament with each piece coming with their original "Gleam of Esteem" Boxes. Having the boxes is nice as it documents what you see very well. Fortune Manufacturing Company was one of many such Chicago companies that came out nice chromed hood ornamentation. Other Companies included Gem, Faith, Kingsley Miller,  Berckson, Blackstone and many more. I guess we can now add Fortune to the list. The Base is UB-1, a Universal application to many 1941-1953 models of the time. They advertised on the box that the Zinc Chromed alloy was soft, it did not need to be heated before grinding the base to fit your American Car during this time period. The Cormorant Bird is shown as a #9000 "Swanette" ALL Chrome on its box. It is a solid one piece ornament that attaches directly to the base as seen in the pictures above. New Old Stock Never Used Condition, these pieces have survived well over the years. Keep in mind that aftermarket items of the 1950s (these are circa 1954) are not the same quality as factory originals, however they are much better quality compared to most of the aftermarket junk you see being made today. As such they are are rare and very collectible. It is not everyday that you find them NOS still with the boxes. The Base measures 12" long by 1-3/4" wide. The "Swanette" is 6" Tall by 4-1/2" wide giving an overall height of 7" when attached to the base.  UPS Ground Shipping is based on 3-1/2 lbs to your USA Address.
