I have stocks of various different brands, e.g. Philips, General Electric (GE), Osram, Tungsram, etc.
IMPORTANT: Due to limitations of these multi-variety listings, the photos are by BRAND. So for example, if you choose the GE FS125 you will see photos of both types of GE starter (FSU and FS125). Please check that the TYPE of item you have ordered is correct - how to identify them by their photo is by referencing the table below:

The starters are listed here by brand (but generally they all do what they’re supposed to do!) and also listed by type. The type is the important bit.
If you can have a look at the starter that you’ve removed; that’s generally what you need. However – keep reading…
Types
Fluorescent starters, also known as glow starters, are categorised based on the Wattage and type of fluorescent tube they are designed to work with. Here are the three most common types in more detail:
- Series Twin Tube FS2 Series Starter:
Low voltage starters suitable for up to 22W, used with fittings that have multiple fluorescent tubes.
- Single Tube Starter FSU Universal:
Ranges from 4W to 65W, compatible with fluorescent tube lengths:
o 2ft / 600mm 18W
o 3ft / 900mm 30W
o 4ft 1200mm 36W
o 5ft / 1500mm 58W
- Single Tube Starter FS125:
Designed for 70W to 125W, typically used with 6ft / 1800mm fluorescent tubes of 70W and over.
These starters are essential for the proper operation of fluorescent lamps, ensuring they ignite efficiently and with reliability.
What happens if the starter is faulty?
If a fluorescent starter is faulty, it can lead to several issues with the fluorescent light, such as:
- Flickering Lights: The light may start flickering or going dim at irregular intervals, indicating interrupted electric current.
- Buzzing Sound: A buzzing sound from the fixture often suggests that the starter has burnt out and needs replacement.
- Slow Brightening of Lights: The lights may take longer to brighten up, showing the starter’s inability to produce adequate electricity.
- Dim Lights: Dim lighting can signal that the current is not strong enough to fully light up the bulb, possibly due to dust on the starter’s contacts or a lack of voltage.
- Overheating: The fixture may get too hot, which could be a fire hazard, indicating the starter needs changing.
- Inability to Turn On: If the lights can’t turn on, it could be due to a defective internal connection or low electricity supply in the starter.
- Bulb Bulges and Discoloration: Visible signs like bulb bulges and discoloration can also indicate a bad starter.
Please note that some starters are marked 4-65W and other brands 4-80W which generally doesn’t make a difference, but if you need to have a specific type, please ensure you select the right one.
For 6ft tubes of 70W or greater we recommend the FS125 70-125W starters
Starters are sent out promptly and suitably packaged. They are robust and I generally send out in a card-backed envelope.
Remember that the price is for ONE PAIR of the selected brand / type. You can purchase as many pairs as you want, with additional discount if buying more than one pair of starters at the same time
Do please ask if you have any questions before buying.
Thank you.
