🌟 Exclusive 125-Year-Old Lithograph! 🌟

The USS Brooklyn (Armored Cruiser #3, later CA-3) was built at William Cramp and Sons, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and was commissioned on December 1, 1896. Here’s a brief history of the ship during the Spanish-American War:

After a special cruise to Great Britain to celebrate Queen Victoria and service in the West Indies, she became the flagship of the Flying Squadron in March 1898.

The USS Brooklyn played a significant role in the Spanish-American War. She was the flagship of Commodore Winfield Scott Schley’s “Flying Squadron” and participated in the naval battle off Santiago de Cuba on July 3, 1898.

In this battle, the USS Brooklyn was a key vessel, and although she was struck 20 times by whole shot, Brooklyn suffered only one man wounded (Fireman J. Bevins) and one man killed (Chief Yeoman George Henry Ellis).
Following the war, she steamed to become the flagship of the Asiatic Squadron during the China Relief Expedition in 1900.
