🎨 Col Thomas Strong Seccombe: The Artistic Dragoon
Colonel Thomas Strong Seccombe, born on 24th February 1840, in Calcutta, India, was a remarkable individual - a military officer, artist, and author. The son of Thomas Seccombe and Caroline Mary nee Brunton, he was baptized at Fort William, Bengal, on 22nd March 1840.

Serving in the Royal Regiment of Artillery, Seccombe married Amelia Blanche Kennedy of Portsmouth in 1871 while stationed as a captain at Woolwich. Their union blessed them with two daughters, Gladys and Olive. Rising through the military ranks, he was gazetted Major on 8th September 1875 and retired in 1881 as a Lieutenant Colonel.

Beyond his military career, Seccombe gained renown for his artistic endeavors, especially military sketches and caricatures. A collection of these sketches was published as "Army and Navy Drolleries" by Frederick Warne in 1873 and 1876. After retirement, he settled in Clapham, finding success as an illustrator and author, contributing to works like "Miss Kilmansegg and her Precious Leg" by Thomas Hood.

Despite varying reports on his date of death, Seccombe is believed to have attended his daughter Olive's wedding at Cochin, Madras, in 1908. His legacy extends through the early 1900s, and he is thought to have passed away in 1913.
