Antique Brass Clad Sailor Stormy Helm Ashtray 1920s-1930s RUHL
A wonderful and eye-catching piece to hold anything on your desk or shelf!
A very commanding sculpture of a sailor in oilskins at the helm/wheel of a ship in a storm. Wave sculptures are along the wheel and base. The figure's face is made of ivorine which is a dense phenolic resin material and is linen-based.
Reverse side signing is RUHL or RVHL for John Ruhl the artist.
The foundry would have likely been J. B. Hirsch
This weighs just under 3 pounds.
Old white glass tray can be removed from figure
About 6" x 4.5" base x 4" tall
Tray is 3-3/8" diameter
Used, as-is. Some spots of wear showing the base metal. White porcelain bowl has a spot. Some dirt. See attached pictures. Ruler in pictures is not included in sale.
