Civilian Conservation Corps C.C.C. Wool Blanket Co 9537 62"x79" - Worn, Stitched
Rare, a part of American Great Depression History
Olive Drab Color. The wool fabric (or possibly a wool blend) appears to have a different weave than standard military issue (see attached close up picture).
Ink stamped "C.C.C. CO 9537" (9537 is an estimate as the ink number is blurred on the fabric).
The Civilian Conservation Corps put many young men to work during The Great Depression building out the infrastructure and recreational access across the United States of America. Some of their gear is very similar or made by the same contractors as for the US military of those years. The C.C.C. was in service from 1933 to 1942.
Used, as-is. Has numerous spots where somebody has made stitch repairs with lighter colored thread. Has small holes. Has stains. See attached pictures. It is interesting that somebody took so much time and care to hand stitch the various tears and holes long ago.
My grandmother used to tell me stories about the CCC during the Great Depression. It sounded like it provided a lot of good to people at a time when they needed it most.
