Erzengel Michael Porcelain Plaque Archangel German 6 1/16" x 10 3/16" in very good clean condition.
Purchased at an auction house. I have been unable to find any additional information on this piece. This is the information that was given through the auction house:
"Erzeng Michael The original tile model, after this one
Porcelain cast was made, is in the department for applied arts at the Joanneum Gray State Museum (3nu.-Nr. 9.745) and comes from the area of ??Knittelfeld-Beckau/Styria, was probably created by a Salzburg artist before 1650 and shows the signature on the back ... Bte tile model was molded on behalf of the Cultural History Society. Bus Relief shows a youthful warrior in an antique bar pose. As a symbol of sovereignty, he wears the crown circlet in his hair and the sun and moon can be seen on his breastplate. In his raised right hand he holds the flaming sword as the guardian of paradise, in his left the scales that mark him as the weigher of souls. Here the devil clings to one scale and tries to pull it down, but the personified soul of the good man in the other weighs more. Michael stands above the devil in token of his victory over evil."
