Annalee
Thorndike and husband, Chip, lived on a chicken farm. After the chicken farm
failed in the early 1950s, Annalee was forced to get serious about her childhood
hobby of doll making with a dash of Yankee influence. The old chicken coop
became a design room and Chip became a salesman. She fashioned her creations from
the activities of her two sons—skiing, swimming, and other fun activities
children do best. There is no doubt that this is why Annalee designed more than
one mischievous, whimsical face for each of her doll creations.
Up for
sale is a (1997) limited edition piece it is a great
characterization of a little boy bathing his dog, with a toothbrush as his scrub brush. The piece is in mint condition with sewn in and hang tags.
Rather than using a felt base, a heavy board was used to look like bathroom
floor tile. The base has a 7-1/4" diameter, and the boy is 6"
high. The bathtub is affixed to the base, but the boy is on the
traditional wire that inserts into the figure. Cute Piece!
