This
plant with so colorful and cheerful fruits that overcome thirst in the
hot and muggy days of summer has Asian origins where, in some areas, it
still grows wild today.
From
there it passed to Greece and then to Italy where it spread first in
the Southern Regions, warmer and more suitable for its cultivation and
then in the central and northern ones. The cultivation is very ancient
and the plant is already mentioned in the Bible, where it is told how
the Jews crossed the Sinai regretted the watermelons with which they
refreshed and fed when they were in Egypt.
Our
selected and tested seeds produce oblong watermelons with light green
streaks, with a delicious and sweet taste and astounding dimensions,
even from Guinnes records. The weight, if grown with care, can exceed
100 kilograms.
Giant
watermelons need heat and moist, well-drained soils. It should be
remembered to place the seedlings at least two meters from each other by
virtue of the size that the Giant Watermelon can reach. The exposure
must be in full sun, taking care to mulch the soil, to protect the fruit
from weeds and humidity from contact with the earth.
