This is for an original program and ticket stub from the August
30 1952 game between the St Louis Browns and Detroit Tigers held at Sportsman
Park in St Louis. In a true pitchers duel, the Browns Duane Pillette would
defeat Art Houtteman and the Tigers 2-1 with both pitchers going the distance.
Pillette would pitch a two hit gem for the win with all of the Browns scoring
coming off the bat of Clint Courtney. Courtney would double home Vic Wertz in
the fourth inning and double home Gordon Goldsberry and in the eighth for both
of the Browns runs. A walk to Johnny Groth in the first and a single by Walt
Dropo would lead to the Tigers only run. A double by Cliff Mapes in the sixth
would be the only other hit that Pillette would allow. A nice combo with a
scored program in great shape along with the games ticket stub taped to the
inside cover. Only 4,508 would attend the game making this a true rarity from a
now defunct team.
