Exquisitely detailed steel engraving from Volume I of Picturesque America, published by D. Appleton & Co. in New York City.  While All prints from this publication have a copyright date of 1872-4, the actual publication date was 1874 (first edition).  The artist's name appears in the print's bottom left, the engraver's name in the bottom right and the publisher's name and copyright in the bottom center.  Printed on heavy paper.  Our prints from this volume are unusually clean and free from foxing, with only very slight age-related toning.
