This is a vintage, Depression Era, Sauer's Extract bottle embossed on both sides, "Sauer's Extracts". The bottom is embossed with the Owens Illinois mark and illegible numbers, possibly a 6 and a 9. Best date estimate on the cork topped bottle (cork is missing) is either 1929 or 1939, as the number 9 would have been representative of either of those two years. Conrad Sauer, a pharmacist, developed Sauer's flavored extracts during the 1880s in Richmond, VA. My father, an avid bottle digger, discovered the bottle in the remains of an old homestead in Virginia more than 40 years ago. The vintage bottle is in wonderful condition, free from breaks or cracks. Clarity is very nice with minor sediment deposit. Embossing is sharp. The bottle measures about 6.25" tall x 2" wide x .75" in depth.
