Snoopy and the Artemis Missions
The U.S. Space Agency's association with Charles M. Schulz and Peanuts began in the 1960s with Snoopy and the Apollo moon missions. Snoopy was often depicted in the comic strip as being on the moon and following the tragedy of the Apollo 1 mission Schulz was contacted about the use of Snoopy as a mascot for flight safety, to which he agreed. During the May 1969 Apollo 10 mission to survey the lunar surface before future lunar landings the crew named the lunar module Snoopy since its mission was to snoop around. The crew named the command module Charlie Brown. U.S. astronauts also award the Silver Snoopy to employees and contractors of the agency for outstanding achievements in flight safety and successful missions.

Now with the Artemis missions there is renewed focus on returning to the lunar surface and Snoopy will be along for the ride! This co-branded Snoopy and Artemis Missions colorized Silver round will commemorate the longstanding partnership between Snoopy and U.S. spaceflight as well as the launch of the Artemis Missions themselves which are scheduled to begin as early as the end of December 2021.
