Out of the hundreds of Sunflowers we grow every year, the bright RED VELVET QUEEN SUNFLOWER is easily riches sunflowers we grow, This Red Velvety multi-headed sunflower is literally covered in 4-6” flowers with deep mahogany centers. Their branching habit make it excellent for cut flowers, will add in interest to any garden or bouquet
Sunflowers standing proud, a beacon to pollinators far and wide, with edible heads, petals and seeds
Petals can be dried and used soup or fresh in salads, harvesting the seeds couldn't be easier, eat them roasted or raw. Leave them up all winter, native birds will spend endless hours hanging from the seed heads. Sunflowers build deep root systems helping retain moister to share with nearby plants.
Direct sow mid-April to late May. Starting indoors is possible, but does not gain much time. If sunflowers are allowed to get root-bound, they will lack stability at transplant time, and will require staking. Optimal soil temperature for germination: 21-30°C Seeds should sprout in 10-14 days.
