In this publication we try to provide the keys to interpret the wise provocations of René Magritte (1898-1967), an artist difficult to place within a school. Beyond the evident relationship with surrealism, there remains, in painting, something that escapes any classification. In reality, the Belgian artist pursued, throughout his life, a single aim: to visually reconstruct the mechanisms of his thought. It is from this purpose that his obstinate repetition of archetypes juxtaposed according to a mysterious logic arises.

Al di là degli evidenti rapporti col surrealismo resta, nella pittura, qualcosa che sfugge a ogni catalogazione. In realtà l'artista belga perseguì, per tutta la vita, un unico intento: ricostruire visivamente i meccanismi del pensiero. È da questo proposito che scaturisce la sua ostinata ripetizione di archetipi accostati secondo una logica misteriosa.
