Scriabin Memorial Concert

The memorial concert for Alexander Scriabin who passed away on April 14, 1915 started with his symphonic Poem of Extasy op. 54, Arthur Lemba (1885-1963) then played 4 solo piano pieces, followed by a performance of Prometheus with Lemba at the piano.
Scriabin passed away at the age of 43 from an infection easily cured today on April 27, 1915. This memorial concert, one of several which was withheld until the Fall concert season.
Lemba (1885-1963) was an Estonian concert pianist and composer. He was a piano pupil of Van Ark, Tolstov and Borovka at the St. Petersburg Conservatory and a composition pupil of Soloviev, Glazunov, Lyadov and Rimsky. He won the Anton Rubinstein prize in piano performance in 1908. He was immediately hired as a piano professor at the Conservartory and performed as a concert pianist until 1920. He was friendly with Scriabin and often played his works in recital and concert.
