Nathaniel Hawthorne. A Wonder Book. George H. Doran. ND. [1922]. First U.S. Edition. Maroon-red cloth with gilt lettering and pictorial design to front. Gilt titling to spine. 16 mounted color plates. 8 full page illustrations, printed in several colors. Illustrated endpapers. 4to.
The very scarce jacket is near fine or better with two flaws: minor chipping to spine tail, closed tear to length of spine shoulder. (Latter could be repaired with archival tape to the verso.) Color to the front is excellent. Spine with just a touch of fading. Very attractive. Hard to find the jacket at all and this is one is beautiful.
The maroon cloth boards have excellent color, having been protected by the jacket. Gilt bright and attractive. Spine not darkened or sunned: same color as front boards. Previous owner's name to top of ffep and repeated to half-title. Interior clean and attractive. Bright and fresh. Appears unread and unused. All plates present and in fine condition. Interior fine.
An exceptional copy with the rare dustjacket.

All books have images that show many of their characteristics and a description is provided that lists faults and virtues and general characteristics. Feel free to ask questions. Images and descriptions help, but there is nothing to replace seeing a book in person. I try not to miss any major blemishes, but if I do, you have my apologies. And a full refund. |
