Antique Pair of Chinese Porcelain Fenghuang/Phoenix Bird Statues

Up for sale is a beautiful pair of early 20th-century Chinese porcelain fenghuang (phoenix) bird figures, each carrying rich auspicious symbolism. In Chinese tradition, the fenghuang—often called the “king of all birds”—represents high virtue, grace, harmony, and prosperity. According to classical texts, each part of the fenghuang’s body symbolizes a moral virtue, including 德 (virtue), 義 (duty), 禮 (propriety), 信 (credibility), and 仁 (mercy).

Both statues are delicately hand-painted in vibrant colors, with wings slightly spread in a poised and elegant stance. The bases are stamped; one clearly reads “China,” while the remaining marks are indistinct.

Condition

Overall good and clean. One bird has a repaired area on the crown, visible in photos 10 and 14 (indicated by a red arrow and red line). The other bird shows no chips, cracks, or repairs.
