This cartridge is not to be confused with the Vado CEL-001B-WAX thermostatic cartridge as they both have similar codes and look similar. The CEL-001B-WAX is fatter than the CEL-001B/B-WAX and also has a shorter spindle with a different number of teeth.

The Vado CEL-001B/B-WAX thermostatic cartridge is the brass version and precursor of the CEL-RETROFIT/B. This Vado spare part is suitable for concealed valves manufactured by Celsius, Elements, Notion, and Nuance.
How to: Vado thermostatic cartridge CEL-001B/B-WAX Replacement
A valve hidden at the back of a bathroom wall is considered as a concealed shower valve. Its control handles and faceplate lay on the surface of the tiling. This type of valve is prepared with one to three handles. A handle â or handles â turns the shower the on/off, regulates the temperature, and diverts water flow from the shower head to tap.
A thermostatic cartridge can function for some years. But, inconsistent cold and hot water supply pressure or the presence of hard water debris can be some of the reasons a cartridge may fail prematurely.
Here are some general steps on how to change the Vado CEL-001B/B-WAX thermostatic shower cartridge on a concealed shower valve with two handles.
1: Detach the handle prong. Turn it clockwise by hand to unscrew. With the prong out, a 2.5mm Allen key can be used to loosen the screw that secures the handle cap. (The same process goes for the second handle which covers the flow cartridge.) Remove the temperature stop ring.
2: Turn the securing rings counterclockwise to unfasten the faceplate.
3: To shut off water supplies, use a screwdriver and turn the isolation screws clockwise until it tightens a fair amount. The screws can be found on both sides of the valve.
Note: Please be sure you are not under the shower head or the tap before testing if water has been successfully isolated to prevent accidental burns or shock.
To check if isolation is achieved, stack the handle back on the temperature control valve. Turn it counterclockwise until it stops. Then turn it clockwise until it stops again. If water did not flow from the water outlet, isolation is accomplished.
4: Screw out the thermostatic cartridge to remove.
5: With a cloth or a small brush, clean the inside of the valve housing. Run it with water if necessary.
6: Grease the o-rings of the new Vado CEL-001B/B-WAX thermostatic cartridge with silicone lubricant before installing it in the valve.
7: Turn the isolation screws counterclockwise to open the water supplies.
8: Observe if there are no leaks around the cartridge.
9: Reassemble the valve shrouds, securing rings and faceplate. Calibrate the shower cartridge.
10: Replace the flow cartridge handle and fasten it in place.
11: Restore the temperature stop ring with the stop point on the uppermost position. When doing this step, make sure the cartridge spline is not moved.
12: Replace the thermostat handle, also making sure the stop button is on top.
13: Reattach the handle. Turn the shower on to double-check installation and calibration.
