Biography

Alex Lifeson, born Aleksandar Zivojinovic in Fernie, BC on 27 August 1953, is the guitarist  in Canada’s legendary band Rush.

Alex grew up in Willowdale, ON, is married to Charlene and has two sons, Justin & Adrian. He is a musician, songwriter, producer, licensed aircraft pilot, motorcycle rider & gourmet cook, and is the owner of the Orbit Room restaurant.

He plays electric and acoustic guitars as well as other stringed instruments such as mandola, mandolin, and bouzouki. He  performs backing vocals in live performances and occasionally plays keyboard and bass pedal synthesizers. During live performances, Lifeson, like the other members of Rush, performs real-time triggering of sampled instruments concurrently with his guitar playing.

On December 1, Rush will release a lavish, new and expanded edition of the  landmark album A Farewell to Kings — the fifth studio album originally released in 1977, which introduced the radio hit “Closer To The Heart,” album tracks “A Farewell To Kings,” “Madrigal,” “Cinderella Man,” as well as enduring fan favorites with “Xanadu”. The Juno award winning band was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 1994, and Lifeson, along with the other two ban members, was made an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1996 and inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013.
