Tall 8vo., original red cloth with a small pictorial gilt decoration on the upper board, (xii), 388pp. With 26 plates including 25 lithographed plates finished in colour, one facsimile of a Japanese voucher (plate XXV in list) and two maps (one folding). Small blindstamp on the titlepage, spine a bit soiled but otherwise a near fine copy.
Frederickson [1823-1900], an amateur biologist, published this work based on his diary of travels in 1870-1 and 1876-78 detailing his expeditions to India, Ceylon, Indonesia, China, and North America. Five of the twelve chapters are devoted to India. The attractive plates detail the native population as well as details of the plants and fruit of the area.
