This image of Buddha attaining enlightenment with his hands lying in the Bhumisparsha mudra (non verbal hand gesture of self expression) is commonly known as the “Earth Witness” mudra. All five fingers of his right hand touches the earth symbolizes his enlightenment under the Bodhi tree where he called upon Mother Earth to bear witness to his attainment of enlightenment.
