This is a quite rare and lovely bread knife, made by Armand Gross, active in Paris in 1893. The .950 sterling silver handle is decorated with stunning repousse clover leaf and floral design. The original steel blade is engraved in matching fashion. There is a monogram on one side, I can never make these out: looks like "RG". Condition is good. There is some darkening on the steel blade; which is quite normal in these antique steel blades. The original box also shows a bit of wear. We all want to be in clover, don't we? A great gift for your Irish darling. Dimensions: knife is 10.75" long, 1 1/8" wide. The box is 12.5" long, 3 1/8" wide and 1.5" tall. Marks: The handle bears the .950 sterling guarantee, the Minerve 1st titre. Also we find the maker's punch for Armand Gross; a very well respected master-smith in Paris, turn of the century. Active 1893 in Paris. [983]
