Aventurine is usually found with small crystal inclusions that both reflect light and help to create a wide range of natural colors. Green Aventurine is often mistaken for Amazonite, Jade or Malachite. Green Aventurine is one of the alternate birthstones for August and is one of the anniversary gemstone for the 8th year of marriage. The hardness is 6.5 to 7.0 on the Mohs Scale of Hardness.

Colors:
Aventurine is most often found in green and may have contrasting bands of colors. In addition to the greens, Aventurine is found as blue, blue-green, brown, creamy white, gray, orange, peach and yellow as well as many color blends in between those listed.

Care:
Many gemstones are soft and should be handled with great care. Even those that are considered hard can be scratched and cracked. Most gemstones should be cleaned using lukewarm, mild, soapy water and rinsed with the same temperature water. Avoid sudden changes of temperature and, as with all fine jewelry, remove before doing any type of physical work. Traditional gemstone procedure of storing in soft cloth away from other articles of jewelry hold true, too. Ultrasonic cleaners, steam cleaners and chemicals should never be used.
