Description:
Isoda Mataichiro (磯田又一郎1907
– 1998) was a highly skilled Japanese artist
best known for his woodblock prints published by Unsodo during the 40s and 50s
[see the cited reference below for details]. This particular print of was a good example his style and subject. It depicted a
Meiko of Kyoto in Summer Festival looking over a passing float.
Unsodo was quite consistent in that only its prints
of 1st edition were dated and the date were erased from the plates for
subsequent issues. Thus, bearing
the 1951 date stamp on the
left margin, this print is properly
designated as the 1st edition [obviously more valuable than its subsequent issues].
