Condition:
The map is in excellent condition (i.e., clear and clean image, strong and bright paper, original full margin (very rare), vivid colors, and slight but even age toning – one of the nicest condition you will ever encounter for this map). It was issued with a centerfold and French text on verso. Ample photos [front, back, and details] in high resolution are presented for your convenience of identification and judging its excellent quality independently.
Flaws to note: There are a few tiny abrasive spots, a very minor ( 1/2 inch) centerfold separation at bottom (professionally reinforced), and two tiny wormholes at top margin (repaired), all as shown by the detailed photo.
Description:
This very nice and highly decorative map of Leodiensis [40 miles around present day Liege (Luik) region of Belgium] was a map published by Jocodus Hondius [an important 17th century Dutch map maker, and successor of the Mercator s Atlas] in the first French edition in 1607. Oriented with East at the top, the map was beautifully hand colored and decorated with a nice title cartouche and an elaborate mile mark, showing all the major cites/towns, mountains, forests, and its extensive river [e.g., Meuse] systems in great details.
