Description:

        Christopher James (currently the Chair of Photography, Lesley University, Boston) is an internationally known artist and photographer whose art works [especially those alternatively processed photos] have been exhibited and collected in major museums around the world.

        The current picture entitled Fairmont San Francisco depicted an interesting view of this historical hotel. The photo was completed in 1980 and was archivally printed the same year. It was toned with sodium sulfide sepia, hand dyed [with silver replacing mordant dyes in selected areas], air dried, and then enameled [either in tint or transparent]. In some area, wax or oil based colors have also been employed [by hand] for color accent. The windows and the roofs were nicely enameled in yellow. This process gives the finished picture an interesting 3-D feeling.
